D iamer: The government claimed to have closed in on the terrorists involved in the assassinations of foreign mountaineers, say media reports.
Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Muneer Badini and Inspector General Usman Zakariya held a joint press conference here in connection with the operation to arrest the terrorists who murdered ten foreign climbers.
The top police official said the terrorists are present in groups in tortuous and highly complicated district Diamer; of them, 16 have been identified, adding the 35 arrested suspected people are further being interrogated.
Of the 16 identified terrorists, ten belong to district Diamer, three Kohistan and two terrorists are from Mansehra.
The CS Badini said Pakistan Army spearheaded the operation with three to four helicopters on air-surveillance duty for the operation.
The chief secretary the terrorists hailed from different terrorist outfits; however, they received training in FATA.
It should be mentioned here that, a group of gunmen dressed as paramilitary police stormed a base camp for the 8,125-meter snow-covered Nanga Parbat peak, the ninth-highest mountain in the world. They shot dead five Ukrainians, one Russian, two Chinese mountaineers, one Chinese American and one Pakistani guide.
