I slamabad: Estranged leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Naheed Khan has called on the government to comply with Supreme Court orders by writing the letter to Swiss authorities.
Talking exclusively to Saach TV, Khan said Monday that asking Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Zardari at the behest of the apex court will mitigate reservations of the people about him.
“The ball is in Zardari’s court… Zardari and Gilani should not be striving to protect each other at the cost of political stability in the country,” she said.
She was of the opinion that a country’s President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister enjoy blanket immunity abroad under international law. However, she stressed that immunity is not automatically acquired, but claimed in the courts.
Naheed Khan said that slain founder of PPP, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was subjected to a judicial murder, but he never ridiculed the courts of the country. Similarly, she said, Benazir Bhutto faced numerous cases in the courts, but never passed derogatory remarks against them.
Commenting on Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif’s statement that he will invite Naheed Khan to join the anti-government long march, the PPP dissident said she respects the PML-N leader, but will retain her affiliation with her party.
“I will remain a member of Pakistan Peoples Party, and will keep trying to make the party leadership realize its mistakes,” she said.
