I slamabad: The Senate has unanimously passed “The National Commission for Human Rights Bill‚ 2012″.

The bill provides for the establishment of a National Human Rights Commission.

According to the bill, a Supreme Court judge or an expert on human rights issues will head the commission while Pakistani forces and the intelligence agencies would also be answerable to the commission. The commission has the authority to visit any jail or a detention centre. Bill also includes that non-governmental Human Rights institutions will get international funding after the approval of the government.

The bill was moved by Leader of the House Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari.

The Senate session was held under the chairmanship of Farooq H. Naek on Friday.
